Jeroen "Labrat" Metselaar was missing, presumed cheesed. Last Saturday evening, I found Jeremy at an Irish pub in Leiden, which was surprisingly uncrowded considering that the Belgium/Netherlands match was a mere hour and a half away. After the experience of Utrecht 2.0, I brought along a large, orange, inflatable hammer to subdue any rowdy spectators. Jos arrived later wearing an orange bow tie without any apparent embarrassment. The following was talked about when fans' yelling didn't drown us out: Yo-yos - it was revealed that Jeremy took part in the World Yo-yo Championships of 1975 and did rather well. AFP DWCon Badges - would this be a good idea, keeping in mind things like meet-challenged people? Horoscopes - You can never remember all twelve signs at once. Shaving beards and legs - when does stubble become scruffy and scratchy? Constellations - there are eighty-eight and Jeremy can tell you the Latin names of twenty of them after three Guinnesses. Asthma - medication was taken out and compared Casting Thread - the referee bore an uncanny resemblance to Death. My mind's a bit hazy about this, but ISTR seeing "English Pub" somewhere this weekend. Huh, it got mainly used for: Waving with Hitting people over the head instead of forcing 'em to cough up 20p or an equivalent thereof after a particularly bad pun or a Monthy Python-quote Mimicking bits of "The Wall" (well, half of bits, really. Next time we want *two* hammers) Hitting people on spots-with-hair-we-want-on-the-other-side, trying to fix shaving and spot-baldness in one go. > Jos arrived later wearing an orange bow tie without any apparent > embarrassment. And a nice bow tie it was too. Not a real one, though, and I think I should be lucky for that. The first thing Jeremy tried after spotting my orange tie was janking the two ends. He then told us about him wearing a *proper* bow tie once and having to re-tie it a gazillion times in one evening, thanks to inquisitive people.. > The following was talked about when fans' yelling didn't drown us out: <snip> > AFP DWCon Badges - would this be a good idea, keeping in mind things > like meet-challenged people? It would make it easier to recognise fellow AFPers you haven't met in person and/or haven't seen pictures of.. > Horoscopes - You can never remember all twelve signs at once. ..and when you manage to you run into trouble mapping the "English" names to Dutch ones.. <snip> > Constellations - there are eighty-eight and Jeremy can tell you the > Latin names of twenty of them after three Guinnesses. And we were helping him by throwing in the English names for some.. or the Englerised version of a Dutch name <:-) <snip> TTFN, Jos -- To the engineer, the world is a toy box full of sub-optimized and feature-poor toys.
