From: Susan M <S.M.McKever@durham.ac.uk> Newsgroups: alt.fan.pratchett.announce,alt.fan.pratchett,alt.books.pratchett Subject: [ANNOUNCE][F] Bedford meet, August 26th Date: 12 Aug 2000 16:44:20 +0100 Message-ID: <120800164408afpa@crucible.athame.co.uk> To: alt.fan.pratchett.announce list <afpa@lspace.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Well, the parents said yes... There will be an afpmeet in Bedford on Saturday August 26th. The Plan: 2pm - meet up in the Pilgrim's Progress. I haven't been there long enough to know what it's like, but my dad seems to think there's a good range of beers. Some time later - go shopping for second hand books. 5:30ish - pub again for food. Sunday - recovering from the previous night's caffeine overdose. A trip to the museum may be an option, if people are interested. If this sounds vague it's because I'm waiting for pub advice from the master himself, Gid Holyoake. How to get there: I recommend either train or bus. Driving is an option, but Bedford is not a good place to get lost in. For maps, try http://www.streetmap.co.uk and search for Bedford. Alternatively, there's one showing the one way system on Gid and Suzi's site at http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~gidnsuzi/whereis.html Train: From/through London - there's regular trains from Kings Cross Thameslink. Check http://195.92.21.203/bin/query.exe/en for details. There's also less regular but much faster ones from St Pancras. >From anywhere else - well, if you happen to be on the Midland Mainline from Derby to St Pancras, they stop in Bedford. Otherwise it's a bit tricky. Leave by the exit on platform 1, go out and turn right onto the main road. The road takes a sharp turn to the left at a little roundabout. From then on keep going straight ahead. The pub is at the junction where this road becomes a pedestrian zone. Bus: >From Oxford/Cambridge - get the stagecoach X5. There's also busses from other places, I just happen to know about that one. National Express stop in Bedford as well. >From the bus station, head out towards the roundabout. Go left. The pub is on the opposite corner of the junction where the pedestrian zone starts. Car: I pity you. Bedford has one of the most tortuous one way systems in the country. If you are coming by car, let me know by email where you're coming from and I'll give you directions. My mobile number is available on request, so you can find out where we are if you're late. I can meet people at the bus or train station if required. Crash space: More or less unlimited - I can even provide beds. Let me know if you're coming so I know what to expect. Bring a sleeping bag if you've got one. Finally, if there's anything I've missed, it'll probably turn up in a later announce. Watch this space. Email me at mailto:s.m.mckever@durham.ac.uk if you're coming so I know what I've let myself in for. - -- Susan Afpfriend to James, Afpfiance to Chris and Dragon Prince My site: http://www.dur.ac.uk/~d80s5v/ I am the cat who walks by herself -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3i Charset: noconv iQBVAwUBOZVwylEnYeztdy65AQHQGAIAhvopRIwwF+108L6SdHQpufHcrIi1osaF ZrvEcu4NzB5Hsup16CabhzBt4/A+1gT78N1K2i7QYxBcqbYNzP3Kcw== =4B8G -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Submissions for alt.fan.pratchett.announce to: afpa-mod@lspace.org All submissions are PGP signed.
