After a very successful run of "Pratchett Pieces" during the recent Adelaide Fringe, Unseen Theatre Company returns to the Bakehouse Theatre for "Lords and Ladies", a theatrical version of British author Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel of the same name.
Based very loosely on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", the play follows the events leading up to the royal wedding of King Verence II of Lancre to Magrat Garlick, a young and rather naive witch. The festivities are confused by the arrival of the Queen of the Elves, who isn't as friendly as one could hope for. This sets the stage for many laughs involving witches, fairies, wizards, Morris dancers and an orang-utan.
Preparations for the play have been going on since early this year, with many of the cast finding themselves preparing for two productions at once, leading to some fun moments in rehearsal as characters from "Pratchett Pieces" turn up in "Lords and Ladies"
Fans of Unseen Theatre Company's earlier productions of "Guards! Guards!" and "Men At Arms" may be disappointed to learn that the City Watch doesn't make an appearance, but director Sean Venning says "There are many new and very funny characters to meet, and the production promises to be very entertaining."
