Whilst a record number of 10th birthday year afpmeets go on,culminating in the convention, there are those of us,for whatever reason, geographical distance, other commitments, illness or injury, can't join in the fun.

(I reckon I've missed four I should have been at already *sob*)

Thinking of this forgotten group of meet wannabes-but-can't-make-it, I offer a short filk :
(imspired by but not directly modelled on the circumstances of three fans I'm personally aquainted with)

TTTO Honey Pie (Beatles : White Album)

She was an ircing fan
Far from England's sea
Now she's got addicted
Hooked on a f p

And if she could only text me
This is what she'd say

A F P you are driving me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come here

A F P my partition is tragic
Come and help me use Magic
With your geek expertise

You became a legend of the fandom scene
And now the thought of Hinckley fun
Makes me weak in the knee.

A F P you are driving me frantic
Fly across here and be quick
To be where you belong

Will the hugs that they all send
Be real for me
But now send some choccies on for free

A F P you are making me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come here

Anyway, since I have been very
fortunate to attend so many meets in
previous years,and having meet some
wonderful people, its time for this
old fart to hand on the baton, so to
speak.

The fates have Spoken, and on the
day I was to have held my own
birthday meet
(Apologies to all the local afpers
I've let you down),
best to announce my departure
from (#)ap.

(Some of the other old farts might recall
I've tried to escap^W leave before,
but what with the injury and depression
I can't let an (#)afp addiction become
a crutch, however welcoming that might seem)

So thanks for all the fis^W chocolate

the crippled (but finally retiring) hippo
