When creating pages for The L-Space Web, maintainers are encouraged to retain the same overall look and feel across the site. A series of macros (pre-defined html code) were created to assist in this task and they should be used whenever possible. However, to use a macro correctly, you need to know how it works. These pages are designed to give you that information. They may look daunting at first, but the more you use the macros the more sense they will make.

All pages are uploaded as .h4 as opposed to .html. An example of a raw .h4 file can be found here (the code for this page).

The main macro definitions are actually stored in one file (macrodefs.m4), but they have been split them into categories to try and simplify them.

• The global macrodefs :

  • Headers, Toolbars & Footers : Required for each and every page.
    This supercedes the old macros due to the overall upgrade to xhtml.
  • Directories : Used to navigate to various sections of L-Space.
  • Books : Bibliography macros.
  • Who's Who : Macros that link to the Who's Who character pages.
  • General : General, and not so general, macros.
  • APF : APF, PQF, Bibliography macros.
  • Specific Sections : Specific macros for the Recipe, DWCon98 and Other Links sections.
  
  

• Local Macrodefs
  Page maintainers are now, also, able to create macros for specific for their sections.

• Entities or special characters
  This page lists codes that are proving to be useful, especially within a macro.
